If you haven’t heard about Movember yet – where have you been? But also, you’re in for a real treat.
Movember is a shortened version of ‘Moustache November’ (the fancy term for is a portmanteau word, in case you were wondering). During this month, men around the world allow their moustaches to grow, to raise awareness around men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, general fitness, and mental health. Since its inception in 2003, the Movember Foundation has raised $837 million in more than 20 countries around the world.
It’s a fun initiative that literally aims to change the face of men’s health awareness.
If you’d like to get involved, you need to start the month off clean shaven. (Ladies, you can encourage the men in your lives, too.)
As your moustache begins to grow, your peers will start to ask questions, which allows you to start a conversation around the topic. You can post weekly ‘mo updates’ on your social media accounts and invite your friends and family to make donations to men’s health organisations. You can also make an effort to increase your general health by being active and encouraging your friends to do the same.
